If the above applies, then you need to consider the various business applications you may or may not be running at present. Now is the time for all businesses to evaluate what they have in place and whether or not it will lead them into future.
Why is the market changing in the Power Industry?
With the ever increasing demand in Southern Africa, there has been a national focus on growing capacity. New power plants are under construction and many are in process of being returned to service. Many of these projects have been fast-tracked placing pressure on suppliers to keep up with the demand.
For suppliers to be competitive and to effectively manage the increased volumes they will need to ensure that adequate management and controls are in place and ensure that their processes are sufficiently streamlined.
The typical symptoms of the organically grown businesses are that the organisations business processes are inadequate in coping with the growth of staff, production and sales, and as a result manifests in the following:
·         Companies are not agile enough to cope with the fast-tracked demand
·         Companies may have various disparate software systems that cannot be collaborated
·         For management teams, monthly reporting either is not of a satisfactory standard to provide meaningful information timorously or is non existent
·         Many of the business systems are not aligned to the company’s business processes

As a result many businesses are not coping and need to realign their IT strategy and see their IT spend not as a necessary evil but rather as a strategic business tool.
Neville Levinthal, believes that traditionally business believed that business systems consulting was unnecessary and generally a waste of money. However, now more and more business are realising the importance of streamlined and efficient business processes and that they don’t have either the time or in/house skills to evaluate and make recommendations towards a solution.
WisHList Corporation analyses a business’s current processes and assist in defining a technological strategy which aligns to the organisations business strategy. We identify the key weaknesses in these processes and have the experience to apply the most appropriate software solution. For these organisation to succeed, the adoption of technology must viewed as a strategic element of the business and not as a necessary evil
At WisHList we don’t like to reinvent the wheel, we have looked at solutions available in the market and adopted a base system. This is then developed to meet the unique requirements of our customers. We use best of breed technology with proven track records. As such a solution can be implemented faster and at a more affordable cost. With the technology available and our industry experience, we can marry the requirements and wishes of the customer to technology.

Creating a Project Business Case
The purpose of a Business Case is to justify the project expenditure by identifying the business benefits you're going to deliver. Here's how to create a Business Case in 4 simple steps:
Courtesy of Method 1 2 3
Step 1: Identify the Business Problem
Usually, projects are undertaken to solve a particular business problem or opportunity. So you need to investigate that business problem or opportunity and describe what it is, how it's come about and the timeframes in which it needs to be addressed.
Only with this knowledge, will you truly understand the purpose of the project and the timeframes for delivery. Without this knowledge, it's like building a house without a solid foundation.
Step 2: Identify the Alternative Solutions
Now that you understand the business problem/opportunity in depth, it's time to identify a solution to address it. To ensure that you choose the right solution, take these steps:
  • Identify the alternative solutions
  • Quantify the benefits of implementing each solution
  • Forecast the costs of implementing each solution
  • Assess the feasibility of implementing each solution
  • Identify the risks and issues associated with each solution
  • Document all of this, in your Business Case
Step 3: Recommend a Preferred Solution
Before you rank the solutions, set out the criteria for ranking them and choose a scoring mechanism as well. For instance, you may decide to:
  • score each solution from 1-10, based on their costs and benefits
  • weight each based on criteria which are important to you
  • use a more complicated scoring mechanism

Then go ahead and score your solutions to identify the best solution. Make sure you document the entire process in your Business Case.

Step 4: Describe the Implementation Approach
By now, you have selected a solution and you have confirmed its benefits and costs. The next step is to convince your Project Sponsors that you have thought through the approach for implementing it. So document the steps you're going to take to build the solution for your client. Remember, only with a clearly defined Business Case will you ensure you deliver the business benefits expected by your customer.
Documenting the Business Case is one of the most critical steps in the Project Life Cycle. If you want templates to help you do this as well as all of the other steps in the Project Life Cycle, then click here today to Download the Project Management Kit

Giving Back

On the 07th March 2009, Wishlist helped co-sponsor the Hamburger stand at the Little Eden Fete. The stand was run by one of our staff and raised a total of R2500.00.

This is an annual event used to raise funds towards the care of their residents. Little Eden is a home for severely mentally handicapped persons. Ranging in age from just a few months to 53 years, the residents include people with mental illness, disturbed behaviour, multiple physical disabilities and epilepsy. They are divided according to their age and abilities to ensure each receives appropriate care and stimulation in the best possible environment.
